Problem with recovery

I hope someone can help me...

I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo A1655G laptop that I bought from new in September 2006. I've used it a lot and installed lots of things and now it's getting a little slow. I wanted to reinstall Windows, but it doesn't seem to work.

I have the recovery cd and I did get it started, but a little bit into the installation it stops, a black screen appears with a little white cursor in the top left corner and after a couple of seconds the computer shuts off.

What's going on? What can I do?

are you booting from cd and and then going through the format process, or are you initializing it in windows, and then the computer restarts?
I'm booting from the cd. It's begins the installation fine, but suddenly the computer shuts off.
i recommend a 9-iron preferrably made from PING o_o

:p kidding.

does it format the pc and then start the installation for windows and then restarts . . . or does it fail at a certain point and gives u the black screen ?
It begins installing Windows from the cd and then suddenly in the middle of the installation, the computer shuts off. Without any warning.
Is its very possible that your recovery disc was made for Service Pack 2 for XP, whereas you may have upgraded using Windows Update to service pack 3, hence your recovery disc is not working. There is a technique for slipstreaming that might work to make a compatible recovery disc for your PC
The filesystem of the harddisk is probably corrupted. This happens and windows installation cannot start. Find out your harddisk brand and use their tools from their official website to delete the partition. Or alternatively u can use partition magic pro from hiren's boot cd.
